Christmas gifts sure to end up in the toiletWednesday 2nd December 2009 | 11:34 AM« Back to ListingAn iPhone, iPod, Mp3/Mp4 or the latest and greatest camera phone. This new gift is set to change their life as they know it. Never to leave their side and we mean never ........... Did you know ALMOST one in two Australians admit to using their mobile phone while on the toilet! A survey commissioned by Microsoft and completed by 2500 people across Australia, China, India, Japan and Taiwan, was conducted to determine just how integral the mobile phone has become in society. It found that 48 per cent of Australians admitted to using the mobile phone while in the toilet, compared to 66 per cent of Chinese people who do so. It seems mobile phone owners around the world just can't be without their mobile phone. One story involved a train in France. The owner went after the phone when it dropped down the train's toilet. Instead of retrieving the phone, his arm became stuck in the toilet. To get him out, the whole toilet had to be removed from the train at a later stop. Another guy dropped his phone in an airplane toilet and was able to get it back. Unfortunately, even though he cleaned it, dried it off and then washed, and washed and washed his hands, there was a slight problem when he showed up at his business meeting. You see, after the plane landed, he made a phone call and unwittingly deposited a blue streak across his face. He found out about the streak when someone at the meeting asked about it. People use larger phones with screens and keyboards now, so fewer of them get flushed all the way down. And since they're expensive - smart phones can run up to $500 a device - people are buying insurance for phones in greater numbers. However, most insurance policies don't insure against toilet drops. Setting aside whether it's socially acceptable to talk on the phone in the loo, dropping one there is usually considered "negligent" by the insurance companies.
