Both masterpieces will be displayed side-by-side for the very first time. "Soul of Australia" incorporates Aboriginal rock-paintings from all over the country and was accomplished after 18 years of exploring Aboriginal history and years of extensive travel around Australia. The scroll painting on rice paper was displayed in the National Museum of China in 2002 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Australia. However, this painting has never been publicly exhibited in Australia before. More than 60 of Yao's artworks will be displayed, including his extraordinary horse painting series. Over 200 artists, writers, art critics and community groups around Australia and from China are expected to attend the exhibition and a live auction will be held for selected works. Yao managed to teach himself the art of painting in China, and after being caught up in China's Cultural Revolution (1966-1976) migrated to Melbourne in 1977. He distinguishes himself as a horse painting specialist through his creative art expressions. The simplicity, yet enormous vitality of Yao's horse painting, has earned him a world-renowned reputation. Touring around Australia, China, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, he has held over 106 exhibitions around the world and is known as the "Prince of Steeds", with listings in The World Who's Who, The American World Who's Who, and 500 World Celebrities.
