One of Australia's busiest management educators, Dr Dave Poole, is waiving his speaking fees in order to raise funds for the Haiti disaster.
"I have listed myself on eBay for the next week, with a minimum bid of $250, to speak at corporate events in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. In addition, for a generous corporate donation, I'll go anywhere else!," he said.
His rationale for selling himself on eBay is twofold. "In the first instance, I'd like to help the folks caught up in the most significant tragedy of our time. "In the second, the corporate presentations will provide an opportunity to showcase five years of research which has culminated in the recent completion of the manuscript for a new book, Phoenix Rising. "Weaving the stories of some of the best and least known men and women from the fields of business, sport, politics, and entertainment who have encountered failure and yet responded in inspirational ways, Phoenix Rising provides a process for ordinary people who retain dreams of building better lives to do just this. It encourages men and women to reflect on their lives, and on those aspects and events that have tripped them up, and to take pearls of learning from them. "From Frank Sinatra and Steve Jobs to Michael J Fox, and from Benazir Bhutto to Mahandas K Gandhi and Petria Thomas, the characters who inhabit Phoenix Rising are presented as they really are, or were, rather than as the caricatures by which they are often known.
