The report is the result of extensive research into school education and is designed to be the leading source of information on schools in Australia.  The report contains direct information collected from thousands of Australian state education and tertiary institutions over a number of years.

For the first time, everyone can clearly see how a single school compares with all other schools.  Every school in the country is a possible member of every list in the report, with no school discounted or given any special advantages.

The head of the Australia School Ranking group Stephen James says "...like teachers, we aim to educate people. The report is important to read whether you're a student or not, because caring for someone by making the right choices about their education is as critical as giving them somewhere to sleep or eat. People have to understand education is the key to their future. "
